A huge congratulations should go to The Illawarra Blue Stars club and Athletics NSW for organising a well-orchestrated meet at Beaton Park on November 15. A number of competitors and spectators, in particular from Sydney, commented on how well organised and smoothly run the carnival was. The amazing condition of the track and its environs was also a topic of conversation.

A number of Athletics Wollongong athletes attended producing some outstanding results.
Karlee Symonds was 1st in the para women's 100m with 15.24sec and in the men's para 100m Patrick Mitchell was 2nd with 14.03sec.
We had quite a large squad competing in the Women's 100m Sprint Open. There was a massive group of 75 women contesting this event. Many of our women ran amazing times and yet against the mass of Sydney and local talent placings were difficult to obtain.
Delta Amidzovski , in open class and still recovering from a fracture from last season, did extremely well to come 7th in Open Class with a nippy 12.07sec. Kailee Moore, not too far behind in the times, came 15th overall with 12.38sec. The rest of the times for our group were Eleanor Tozer 12.57sec. Ashleigh Concalves 12.72sec, Rosie Tozer 12.80sec, and Susie Seitaridis 13.02sec.
In the Open Men's division the field was even larger with 81 fronting up to try their best. Mitchell O'Neil who is an avid carnival competitor was 4th with a blistering 10.70sec. Not too far behind was Sam Zustovitch, 8th in 10.90sec. Other results were Callum Rann, a prominent 16-year-old 400m runner, who ran 11.51sec for the 100m, Lucas Campbell 11.68sec, Jed Randall 11.77sec, Riley Moran 12.03sec, Mike Doodson 12.36sec and Miller Siasat 13.15sec.
In the Men's 110m hurdles Jett Link had an outstanding performance coming first by more than half a second in 15.05sec over the 91.4cm hurdles. Liam Halloran was 4th in 17.10sec over 84cm hurdles.
In the Women's 100m hurdles 76.2cm Kailee Moore was 2nd in 14.78sec and in the 90m hurdles Delta Amidzovski at the same height was back to her blistering best coming first by more than half a second in 12.48sec.
Pint-sized power house Charlize Colwell was third in the 200m para event in 34.04sec and followed this up with a 78.46sec in the 400m. Mitchell followed up his second in the 100m by coming 3rd in the 200m with 28.58sec.
In the Women's 200m dprint we had 5 out of the 68 competitors, Delta Amidzovski ran a quick 25.30 to come 13th and Kailee Moore ran 25.63 to come 16th. Other times were Eleanor Tozer 26.04sec, Ella Hewitt 27.98sec and Scarlett Dunne 29.81sec.
In the Men's 200m Sprint Open with 65 entries, Mitchell O'Neill ran a very smart 21.45sec coming 6th, while James McPaul, a classy 400m runner in his own right, was 9th with 21.79sec. Other times were Lucas Campbell 23.96, Jed Randall 24.02sec, Riley Moran 24.51sec, Mitchell Doodson 25.66 and Liam Halloran 26.66sec.
The Open Women's 400m Sprint event fielded 29 competitors. Tieney Dunne has found her new mojo in the 400 and this showed with a marvellous third in 57.66sec. Tayissa Buchanan was not too far behind, 6th in 59.45sec, and she was closely followed by Susie Seitaridis 7th in 59.70sec. Our two other reps were Naomi Gibson 63.68sec and Maiya Hewitt 66.02sec
James McPaul was back into his comfort zone in the Men's 400m which fielded 34 athletes. He zipped around the single lap in 49.29 seconds. Junior Callum Rann was a close 9th in 51.74sec and not too far away we had Lucas Campbell running 56.63sec.
In the Mixed Triple Jump event Maiya Hewitt was 10th in Div 3 and Rosie Tozer in Div 2 was 8th on 10.91m and Ella Hewitt 12th on 9.91m.
The St Georges Basin Carnival was also held the same weekend as the IBS event. Young throws talent Chelsy Wayne won all of her events which included breaking the 40m discus record with an enormous 40.45m.
Our team for the Sydney University Open event at SOPAC was a lot smaller, but still made quite an impact. In the women's 100m para event, Karlee Symonds was 1st in 15.79sec which is quite quick for a young athlete who has no vision at all during the event. Charlize Colwell in the mixed para 800m came second to a male runner in 3.04.48. Fourteen-year-old junior Lucas Campbell took on the cream in the open men 100m running a respectable 12.13sec and followed up this outstanding effort with a 4th in the 200m hurdles in 29.63sec.
Fourteen-year-old Tayissa Buchanan in the Open Women 800m came 10th out of 37 with a quick 2.11.82sec. Last but not least was the amazing high jumper Rosie Tozer who came 6th with 1.73m, the first five positions were taken up by guys.
Athletics Wollongong sincerely thanks the outstanding efforts of our athletes, most of whom are juniors in these performances.
