Blue Stars are known to offer both seasons of the sport with a strong summer season of track and field, followed now by the winter cross-country an the popular winter track and field series.
Winter cross-country has commenced with the beautiful setting of Bulli beach being the scene of the second round, held on Sunday in beautiful weather.
Open to athletes of all ages, both male and female, the cross-country has been designed to cater for athletes of all abilities, whether those who just wish to take part for fun, and people who want to take part purely to keep fit.
The courses provided are the longer distance and also a shorter distance that many of the sprinters use for conditioning purposes.
The third round will be held on Sunday, June 2, again on a beautiful course at Minnumurra.
Commencing each round at 10am, any person wanting to take part in any of the rounds can contact 4262 8498 or check on www.illawarrabluestars.com website.
The first round of the winter track and field series will be held on Sunday, May 26, starting at 10.30am at the Kerryn McCann Athletics Centre.
Entry fee is only the fee paid at the Leisure Centre.
Events to be conducted are: 60 metres, 150 metres, shot, walk and long jump with 2x1km relay comprising a junior athlete and a senior/masters athlete.
It's an ideal meet for school students wishing to gain some extra competition prior to school carnivals, and any athlete going overseas.
These meets are held every fourth Sunday of the month, the second round to be held on Sunday, June 23, third round July 28, and the fourth round August 25.
Open to all ages, all athletes are catered for, so come on down and try the sport of track and field and see how you go - you don't have to be a champion.
Blue Stars cater for all ages and once again our annual presentation showed the age brackets that the club is known for.
Winner of the open overall women's point score went to senior female athlete Rebecca Dos Santos while the men's overall point score went to under 12 athlete, Cooper Deegan.
Our junior athletes are well catered for and the club realises these athletes are going to be the future of the sport.
Our senior athletes are a great support base to our juniors, whilst the masters athletes of the club are not only among the best in the land, but are also some of the best supporters of both junior and senior athletes.
Congratulations to our masters athletes who have been nominated for NSW Masters Athletics in respective brackets. Based on performances of 2018, Diane O'Toole and Rina Flynn are nominated for their part in the women's 4x100 relay, Mary Thomas and June Lowe for Thrower of the Year, whilst Gianna Mogentale has been nominated for Jumper of the Year.
The Awards day will be held on Sunday, May 26, and we congratulate all our members on their nomination.
School athletes may be seeking out coaching and preparation for their school carnivals.
If you are in need of a coach of any discipline please contact the club on 4262 8498 or through our club email and we will respond as soon as possible.
