Those gathered at Saint Augustine's Anglican Church in Bulli were reflecting on the tragic loss of life in Australia's second worst industrial disaster that claimed the lives of 81 men and boys just after lunch in March 23, 1987.
But they also heard how the choir was helping the Wollongong music icon who wrote the beautiful song about the city.
Music director Doreen Bryars recalled how former member of The Four Kinsmen Graham Wilson was diagnosed with brain cancer in April, 2015 and how the choir decided it wanted to help the man who had done so much to showcase Wollongong internationally during his career.
"We have been raising funds for Graham singing his lovely song," Mrs Bryars said.
"We are also supporting brain cancer research".
"To do that we made a CD. There are only five songs on there but the main one of course is the Wollongong song (My Heart's In Wollongong)".
Wilson performed internationally with The Four Kinsmen including a long stint in Las Vegas. He wrote two songs about the city he loves. My Heart's in Wollongong is about his pride in the city and how living here is close to heaven.
The Arcadians Lamplighters Male Choir grew out of the Arcadians Theatre group in 1999 to give older retired male members the opportunity to continue to perform publicly.
It has around 60 members and is an inaugural member of the Male Choirs Association of Australia and has successfully performed with up to male choirs from around Australia when they all come together every two or three years.
