Last weekend saw the running of the NSW Little Athletics Championships at SOPAC. Unfortunately, the weather was so miserable that it led to the cancelation of some events and thus prevented some athletes from achieving the potential that they have been training for so long. The wet blustery conditions mimicked the conditions of the cyclone-affected Australian Junior Championships held in Cairns late last year.

A number of athletes who both represented their own Little Athletics club and Athletics Wollongong competed in these championships.

Charlize Colwell (GU 11/12 multiclass), 3rd in 200m 36.37 sec, 3rd in long jump 2.27m, 100m 3rd 17.69 sec, 800m 3rd 3.16.72 sec.

Delta Amidzovski GU13, 100m final 7th 13.21sec, 200m hurdles final 2nd 27.83sec, high jump 1st 1.70m, and a state record in the long jump 5.58m, GU13 80m hurdles 1st 12.33sec, triple jump cancelled.

Miles Dent BU17 and Nathan Bowman BU17 had their events cancelled due to storms. So the unfortunate guys didn't get to compete in their last little athletics year.
Last weekend also saw the Australian Junior Combined events Championships held in Hobart. Two of our members, Thomas Noakes BU17 decathlon and Lara Check GU17 heptathlon competed. Lara finished 4th in Australia on a combined score of 4336 points, an amazing result seeing she nearly fell in one of her events. Thomas was third on 5499 points. Well done to all athletes from both carnivals
