Whilst most folk relax over the Christmas holidays, Eleanor and Rosie Tozer instead spent some of their time competing in the Scottish Indoor Open. Both girls competed in open class with Rosie jumping 10.27m in the TJ, to come 12th in her pool. She also ran an 8.42sec in the 60m, with Eleanor close behind in the same heat in 8.50.

Rosie's 1.77m HJ was the equal highest clearance by a female at the event - and for once she was on the right side of a count back, finishing ahead of the Scottish Commonwealth Games representative Nikki Manson thanks to clearing 1.77m on her first attempt. Both girls couldn't achieve the next level of 1.82m, which would have been a new personal best for Rosie.
The recent running of the Illawarra Track Classic was a collaborative event involving Illawarra Blue Stars, Athletics NSW and Wollongong City Council. This event is becoming more popular every year attracting many talented athletes, not just from the Illawarra, but also from city based clubs and interstate. This is indicated by the very large numbers of entrants in some of the events. Organisers and sponsors are to be commended for their efforts in achieving a very successful outcome of this exercise.
Well done to the squad from our club who pitted their skills against some of the best athletes along the East Coast.
Delta Amidzovski was the second under 14-year-old in the open 60m running 7.98sec. Two hundredths of a second behind was Chelsea Ezeoke. Teagan Berry was the eighth Under 18 across the line in 8.08sec. Lara Check was 9th in 8.10 and Olivia Berry not too far behind in 8.50.
In the men’s Open 60m Mitchell O'Neill ran a respectable 7.20sec, with mate Gabriel Bickel hot on his tail with a 7.24, but who was first of the Under 18 men to make it across the line.
Peter Gandy, a well- known name in earlier Wollongong Athletics history, contested the Men’s 50-59 60m running 4th in 8.96.
In the Women’s Open 100m, all our junior reps accounted themselves well. Chelsea Ezeoke was 10th with 12.49sec, Teagan Berry 19th in 12.66, Delta Adminovski 12.74, Lara Check 13.08, Olivia Berry 13.47 and young 12-year-old Krystal Ezeoke 15.07.

In the Women’s 400m Open, young Chelsea Ezeoke was back to one of her favourite events. In open class company the talented 13-year-old came 6th in 58.39sec. Jessica Quilter Jones ran 60.95 in the same event followed closely by Teagan Berry 62.08 and Olivia Berry 67.66.
We only had two reps in the men’s open 400m, James Gorham 55.78sec and Gabriel Bickel 57.38.
A young developing talent in women's hammer is Jackie Lenartowicz. This amazing young lady swung the iron ball 38.15m, coming 6th in open class. Not to be outdone, multi-talented James Belcher threw a very respectable 44.43m coming fourth in the Open Men’s Hammer.
Young Krystal Ezeoke had quite a busy day of it, by following up her 100m performance with a 9.73m shot put coming first in division 2 and a 7th in long jump with 3.63m. Lara Check was second in the shot put with 8.83m.
Athletics Wollongong has a very well organised pole vault group. These guys and girls are very keen, cover quite an age range and very actively promote their love of the spot.
In the men’s division, first went to James Gorham 3.70m, second James Belcher 3.50m and third, masters vaulter William Tyler 3.00m.
Genevieve Vickers flew the flag for the ladies with a first place vault of 2.80m
Chelsea Ezeoke featured again in the division 1 shot put coming 5th with 11.40m and third in long jump 5.15m. In the same event Delta Amidzovski came first with an enormous leap of 5.47m.
One would think at this stage a number of these folk would be exhausted. However, some familiar faces again appeared in last weekend's last Treloar Shield carnival for the season. Competing again in open class, Chelsea Ezeoke G13, was 8th in the open 200m in 25.74sec, 18th in the open 100m in 13.22 sec, 5th in shot put 11.81m and 14th in triple jump 10.50m.
Krystal Ezeoke G12 100m 15.90sec, 200m 31.82. An encouraging sign was seeing Helensburgh's Tierney Dunne again blowing away the cobwebs with a very respectable 4th in the Open Women's 100m in 12.54sec.
In the same carnival our little T11 para athletic wonder, Karlee Symonds, came first in the 100m in 16.01sec and first in the 200m in 32.02sec.
Kembla Joggers co-members Hannah Crinnion and Ruby-Lee Paterson completed the open women's 400m in 60.50 and 63.78 seconds respectively.
A huge well done to all for your performances.
