Our club fielded a team in the NSW club championships. The team consisted of Isaac O'Brien, James McPaul, Jordan Heywood, Olivia Sivills, Patrice Sivills, Rosie Tozer and Zoe Chater. The three ladies added to the team must have proved to be a successful formula as the team overall managed a fourth place.

Our club sincerely congratulates club member and Nowra High student young Karlee Symonds, who in the December presentation of the South Coast Schools Sports Association awards, received the trophy for the most outstanding Multi Class athlete for 2018. Fantastic work Karlee.
December also saw the running of the Australian All Schools Athletics Championships in a very wet Cairns. A number of our young athletes competing under their school banners strutted their stuff on occasions in very soggy conditions
Karlee Symonds kicked our squad off to a great start winning the Under 18 Para 200m. Her time was 31.96sec, over a second under her existing T11 U18 and U20 national records. She also broke the Oceania record while she was at it. The incredible Karlee backed up that performance by winning the multi class 100m in 14.81sec breaking the U18 and U20 T11 National and Oceania records
Rosie Boyland finished 2nd in the U18 Para shot put with a throw of 10.30m. Although this was the furthest throw in the comp she was placed second when taking her classification into account event.
Rosemary was also 5th in U18 para discus with a throw of 22.34m
Jumps legend Rosie Tozer was 2nd in the U18 high jump with 1.77m.
Chelsea Ezeoke was the fastest qualifier in the U14 400m with a 56.79sec, 0.5 sec clear of the next qualifier and then followed this up with a blistering 55.88 sec, easily taking victory in the final.
As an example of her class, Chelsea competed in the open women's 400m in the Albie Thomas Memorial run at the Bankstown track very soon after her Australian campaign, finishing seventh. In so doing she proved she will be a class runner in the 400m in future.
James Gorham was 8th in the U18 pole vault, jumping 3.95m. James followed this event up by competing as part of the TIGS team in the Nitro All Schools comp. The team finished 8th despite the nasty weather interruptions to the event
Lara Check in the NSW G16 high jump finished 7th with 1.59 metres.
A huge slab of our juniors contested the South Coast Highlands zone championships in December. The 30-strong team came away with some outstanding results which included a high jump record for Rosie Tozer and 5 records for Delta Amidzovski. Mike MacClelland has prepared a detailed list of the squads results and posted it on the Athletics Wollongong Facebook page and on our website www.aw.org.au.
