Blue Stars encourages all athletes to have a go at all events on the program at club level, and then if they can, start concentrating on a couple of events as they continue in the sport.
But the club supports athletes in all their decisions and supports athletes who choose the multiple events, such as the talented masters athlete June Lowe.
June competes in a variety of events and is skilled in all of them.
She used the current Masters Pan Pacs Games as a benchmark on her progression, and what a meet she had.
June created two Pan Pacs records; in the shot with 9.67 metres, and the penthalon with a score of 3719.
She followed this up with gold in the shot, discus, 80 metres hurdles, javelin, hammer, 100 metres, 60 metres, high jump and throws pentathlon, and a great silver in the weight throw.
This shows the variety of June’s events. It also shows athletes the opportunities they have of doing most events and challenging themselves or making a decision on what they wish to do.
In any case the sport gives a wonderful opportunity of a variety of events, and is available for anyone to have a go through IBS.
June was capably supported at Pan Pacs by fellow club member Rina Flynn who captured 5th in the 100m, 4th in the 200m, 5th in the 60m and 3rd in 400m, giving Rina a good result also.
Back on the club scene Rebecca Dos Santos has taken to the steeplechase like it is her top event.
She has shown improvement in each run she has had this year and looks very capable of this challenge.
Over the years she has tried all events and now could be finding one that really suits and challenges her.
Rebecca Dos Santos has taken to the Steeplechase like it's her top event.
She was joined last weekend by a number of athletes having a go in this popular event including junior athletes who have a modified version to “get used to the event”.
State relays are another area where athletes can join their club mates and combine rather than run individually.
The club has a number of teams for next weekend’s NSW Relay Championships and have also combined with Nowra club to submit some branch teams to give as many athletes the chance of competing as possible.
Australia has a very strong focus on relays when it comes to international representatives and many athletes have found themselves in relay teams after missing individual selection.
To be held over two days next weekend, November 24-25, members are advised to meet in bay 10 and are to be at the Homebush Ground no later than 1hour 30 minutes prior to heat start.
Members are also asked to check the final program to be released by Tuesday to see if any changes have been made.
Go to ANSW home age, scroll to competitions, then on to state relays, final program. Club uniforms must be worn and all association numbers.
The program also shows that our sport caters for all people of many disciplines and offers relays in both track and field.

Good to see Mary Thomas back hobbling around on a walking stick but knowing this determined masters athlete, the stick will not be around for long.
Good luck Mary on your return to the athletics scene.
