Mr Munk set himself a goal of $15,000 but three days out from sleeping in the cold for a night at Saint Mary’s Star of the Sea college.
He has already achieved $34,729 to help the region battle homelessness.
A four year participant of the sleepout Mr Munk has enjoyed the backing of many staff and patrons at Wests Illawarra as well as the community.
Having raised $94,890 since 2015 he is now tantalisingly close to $100,000.
He said it was fantastic to have such strong community support and and encouraged the community to get behind the CEO’s sleeping out in the cold this Thursday to help the homeless.
“It’s a privilege to be involved in an organisation such as Wests Illawarra and to interact with members of the community that recognise the needs of others and are prepared to support a cause that is, in essence, a very significant part of key issues within our community,” he said.
“I actively participate in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, on behalf of Wests Illawarra, because I believe in the positive contribution they make to many areas of the Illawarra community.”
“I want to put my support behind them and help spread the word for their initiatives. I am confident that the wealth of funds raised through our participation, and that of many other Illawarra CEO’s and business people, will support the mission of this event which is to eradicate homelessness in the Illawarra”.
Aster Group staff have contributed more than $1000 to Mr Munk’s total.
Other fundraising activitiesjhave included a Coffee Day in May that raised $470, a staff pie drive that raised $455, the Wests Devils Lamington Drive that raised $700 and a recent Move Night that pulled in another $1,350.
Mr Munk said the generosity was a reflection of the incredible support from fellow Aster Group employees, Wests Illawarra members and supporters, strong local partnerships such as the one it enjoys with the Flagstaff Group, and the wider community.
“It is never a solo effort and I thank everyone for their generous support,” he said.
Wests Illawarra employee and CEO Sleepout supporter Paula McEwan said it was wonderful to see her workplace support the cause from the top down.
“I am a strong supporter and sponsor of the Vinnies CEO Sleepout,” Ms McEwan said.
“It is a cause that is close to my heart having had family living on the streets. Being able to contribute funds to this event through the participation of my workplace really shows that regardless of your position in an organisation, we can all wear our hearts on our sleeves”.
