Community groups can nominate to be part of #GreaterIllawarra community funding program before the public votes to decide who should receive the funding.
The winner will receive $2000 and the two runners-up $500 each.
Greater Bank’s chief executive Scott Morgan said the bank had already provided $100,000 in funding to 60 community groups across the New England region since September 2016 and was now expanding to help causes in the Illawarra.
Mr Morgan said it was part of the bank’s commitment to the communities it serves.
He said the first local community groups to nominate for #GreaterIllawarra funding were Shellharbour Suns AFL Club, Corrimal Cougars RLFC and Supported Accommodation & Homelessness Services Shoalhaven Illawarra (SAHSSI).
Shellharbour Suns AFL Club does a lot to encourage participation in sport in the area.
The club is heavily reliant on sponsorships and community funding to ensure it can deliver a cost-effective league for its players and would use the funding to help subsidise registration costs and purchase new training equipment for the club.
SAHSSI is a not-for-profit organisation that specialises in homelessness, domestic and family violence support, as well as women’s services in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven district.
SAHSSI is in need of funding to ensure the continued provision of intensive case management support to vulnerable women through its established crisis accommodation support services.
Corrimal Cougars RLFC was established in 1912 and currently has four teams in the Illawarra Division League, including two women's teams.
The Cougars are strong supporters of women in league and are always looking for additional funding to help offer more opportunities for female players to compete not only for their club but also at a state and country level.
Voting in the June round opens closes at 5:00pm on June 27, 2018 and can be done online or by visiting any GreaterBank branch.
Nominations of community groups for future rounds can also be made online or via social media using the hashtag #GreaterIllawarra and explaining in 100 words or less how the organisation is helping to make a difference for the greater good.
