After substantial investment in upgrading the sound, lighting, staging and seating capacity the improvements were given a big thumb of approval by Guy Sebastian and his sold out audience.
“I would like to thank the town hall for investing in this facility and making this venue available for music again,” Sebastian said.
“It is so important to get a good sound. You will get so many shows.”
He then asked the audience “does it sound good?” That received acknowledgement from the crowd.
Sebastian not only launched his new Now and Then tour at Wollongong Town Hall but had his wife and children in the audience to witness his down-to-earth, genuine, moving, reflective and soulful show that included songs from his latest album “Conscious’ and others from his 15 year career since winning Australian Idol.
His production included giant screens with colourful and sometimes psychedelic projections behind the band.
The show included a very moving tribute to his young children accompanied by photos of them from the last few years that had the two boys pointing as they recognised themselves.
Merrigong Theatre Company program manager Kristopher McDowell said the Sebastian concert was a test that will hopefully see the town hall return to its halcyon days of attracting major artists such as ACDC.
