The awards not only reward those who have achieved on the various stages of athletics, but also recognises the efforts of those who work tirelessly contributing to the successful running of the club.
Once again our inspired MC, President Mike McClelland, brightened up the occasion with his unique sense of humour.
In comparison to other years, this year ended up with some amazing results.
We had 19 reps selected to compete in national carnivals, many winning medals and some breaking records.
They were: Delta Amidzovski, Blake Barklay, Jenna Bentley, Gabriel Bickel, Rosemary Boyland, Karen Clarke, Erin Dalley, Tierney Dunne, Chelsea Ezeoke, Austen Lantry, Jackie Lenartowicz, Jett Link, Kirra Lockett, Isaac O’Brien, Jessica Quilter-Jones, Susie Seitaridis, Karlee Symonds, Rosie Tozer and James Turner.
At the club level, many records were broken. Delta Amidzovski broke six, some of which went back to 1995 in the days of the prolific record breaking Haylee Mathieson.
Chelsea Ezeoke broke 4 records, some of which were also Haylee's. Jackie Lenartowicz, a developing young thrower, broke 3 records.
Patrice Sivills who specialises in middle distance events, broke 5 and the amazing Peter Veerhuis continues to improve with 3 records broken.
Because of the wealth of talent, the task of selecting the most deserving recipients was particularly difficult.
However, we had Kaylee Reid-O'Brien and Jamie Vickery as joint recipients of the Encouragement Award.
Eleanor Tozer with her awesome jumping and Peter Veerhuis, in his amazing anything he competed in, were the most improved athletes.
Talented jumper and runner, Delta Amidzovski was the most outstanding Field Athlete.
The awesome Karlee Symonds, who has shown that she is a para athlete of the future by medalling nationally against athletes up to 5 years older than herself, was the most outstanding youth athlete.
Will Tyler, a pole jumper extraordinaire, who consistently medals in pole vault at national level won the most outstanding masters athlete award.
The President's award went to a very well deserving candidate, Chelsea Ezeoke. This very modest and well liked athlete ripped through state records and titles in the 100m, 200m and shot put and multi-medalled at national level.
Two wonderful club characters deserve mention. Naomi Robinson, a consistent tryer, but a consummate encouraging force behind anyone's efforts received the Club Person of the year Award and Adriana van Bockel, who does a lot of background organising in fund raising and barbecues was deservedly mad a life member of the club, consequently locking her in for a few more years of barbecuing at least.
Last weekend saw the running of the Australian Masters Athletics Championships in sunny Perth. Two of our masters attended.
At this stage Adriana van Bockel W65-69 was 5th in shot put, 1st in hammer, 3rd in discus and 5th in javelin. Will Tyler M55-59 once again proved to be the standard setter by scoring a well earned gold in the pole vault.
