For the second year in a row the Australian Masters Throws Championships were held at the Kerryn McCann Athletics Complex at Beaton Park.

Registered Masters athletes from all over Australia, including one from Sri Lanka competed against each other in age class groups in events such as the discus throw, hammer throw, weight throw, javelin, shot put, a pentathlon of the previous weight throw events, heavy weight pentathlon, the 56 pound throw and the 100 pound throw.
Three Athletics Wollongong athletes competed.
Results for day 1 were:
Christine Shaw W55 class, Shot-put first, discus 3rd.
Ron Simcock M80 class hammer first, discus first, javelin first, and weight throw first.
Dave Ross M65 class hammer first, shot put second, discus second, javelin third and weight throw first and first in weight for distance.
On the second day, a pentathlon of the throws events was held.
In their age classes, Christine Shaw W55, was second on 3153 points, Ron Simcock M80 was first on 3745 points and Dave Ross M65 first on 2104 points.
Results for day three will be posted in our next article in two weeks.
Last weekend also saw the holding of a warm-up meet for the NSW All Schools Championships as well as a series of Multi events.
Results so far are
Elenore Tozer U14G 1st place in the outdoors pentathlon and sister Rosie U16G came 1st in high jump 170cm.
Young Nowra athlete, Cooper Thomson U16B, won the Boys 16/17 years decathlon, scoring an enormous 3.20m in the pole vault.
Also from Nowra, Alice Hamlen U14G cleared 2.40m in the pole vault.
Last year Alice won her event in the NSW All Schools pole vault, but missed out on nationals due to injury.
This year so far, things have been progressing smoothly for this promising young athlete.
Both pole vaulters train at the Beaton Park complex and are almost considered part of the Athletics Wollongong family.
Cameron Lodge U16B ran 53.46 seconds in the open class 400m.
Casey Cleary U17G ran a 63.13 seconds in the open women's 400m.
At the recent MacKillop trials, young Bowral athlete Holly Rea came third in the G10 100m in 14.19 seconds, second in the junior girls 200m in 30.67 seconds and was the 4th leg runner in the victorious St Thomas Aquinas junior girls relay team in the time of 62.55 seconds.
