School teacher Ashton Reed makes a habit of spending time with his three adventurous kids regardless of the day he has had at work.

The Kiama dad is now encouraging other dads to join the Decorate Dad Challenge throughout November.

The nationwide event, through the Dads4Kids campaign, motivates fathers to spend time with their children, while cheering them on to decorate them with streamers, stripes and other creative ideas and posting a fun photo online of their adventures.

The 32-year-old Burrawang Primary School teacher reckons the initiative has created wide attention and is doing a good job connecting dads and their children.

"This is about giving children the best shot at life, spending time with them, allowing them to have good memories," Reed said.

"Father's often work hard. But, spending time with your children and being creative, whether it's watching a movie with them or showing them the mechanics of a car; it's all-important because they're learning and spending time with their dad."

Reed loves playing with his children Dymi, Charlo and Finn.

Warwick Marsh, founder of Dads4Kids, also encouraged dads to participate in the novel initiative.

"The science behind family 'playtime' proves that there are huge benefits to both dad and kids, not only physically but mentally and socially as well," he said.

"Your bravery in having some quality time with your children today will inspire other fathers to do the same.

"You could reach out to all your social media friends to tell them about the challenge."

Marsh said once a dad posts a photo to social media after being 'decorated' by their kids, the dad can then nominate five friends to do the same, adding to the fun and fanfare of the challenge.
