Set on a 885sqm block, the family home at 77 Marshall Street, Dapto recently sold for $720,000.
It contains three bedrooms and four bathrooms.
According to Pricefinder, it sold after just eight days on the market.
The now former owner Clive Nicholls bought the property 13 years ago, after it had been in the same family for about 50 years.
"It was the worst house in the street - it was an old grey, weatherboard, rundown house," he said.
He painted the facade, including using the striking yellow colour to give it a distinctive feel.
"I've always been a bit out there," the 64-year-old laughed.
"We've just freshened the yellow up about seven years ago.
"The house is close to 80 years old, the original house. It was the original manager's house for the bowling club across the road."
According to Domain Group figures, the median price for a three-bedroom house in Dapto is $520,000, with properties spending an average of 79 days on the market, and 79 sold during the past 12 months.
Mr Nicholls said he sold the property as he was building a home on an acreage property at Jervis Bay.
"The (key) features here is the big blocks of land... And the other was it was central in Dapto," he said.
"I'll miss it there. It was a massive decision to leave it, because it's had a massive extension on the back.
"The house has got everything anyone would really want. I'm just going to a bit more land, and so I can have a bigger workshop."
The buyers are an Illawarra mother and son who were reportedly planning to buy in Haywards Bay, but saw this property and snapped it up instead.
Co-selling agent, McGrath Wollongong's Blake Torresan said the new owners have proposed toning down the yellow colour by painting it grey.
"It has a few different breakout rooms, multiple living spaces... It's a very personalised home," he said.
"There were other interested parties, but the other people who were looking at it were potential developers, because of the land size and zoning."
