New era: Tourism Property director Matt Davidson returns to the site of his own wedding after selling Jamberoo Resort to a new owner.

Tourism Property director Matt Davidson is excited about what the recent sale of Jamberoo Resort and a major investment in the property means for the region's tourist industry.

While the new owner does not wish to be named just yet Mr Davidson was keen to reveal their plans for the property which he like many others have used as a wedding venue over the years.

"The new owner took over the property on April 1 and is spending $1 million on renovating Jamberoo Resort. And are on the way to making it a premier wellness destination on the South Coast," he said.

"The term resort is bandied around a lot but what the new owner is doing here is truly making this a resort with the sort of facilities that people expect".

One example is the former manager's house being turned into a luxury day spa facility and wellness centre with a flotation tank, a vichy shower, couples massage room, steam room, jacuzzi, sauna and a large modern gym.

People can come and use the wellness centre for a day and not far away Uncle Tom's Hut is being transformed into a yoga retreat that also operates daily. It features and large indoor and outdoor yoga area.

Mr Davidson expects the new-look resort will be busy during winter as well as spring, summer and autumn.

"The business model is around wellness which is something people can do year round and every day of the week," he said.

Jamberoo Resort will continue to target the travel, wedding, corporate and meetings market as well.

During the sale process Mr Davidson said around 50 potential buyers looked at the property.

He said the new owner had an exciting plan and a great vision that was coming together really quickly by taking advantage of the downturn during COVID-19 to get stuck into such major work.

Mr Davidson said it wasn't just wellness facilities being renovated but conference and function rooms, commercial kitchen, tennis court, ceilings, landscaping, paving, decking, bathrooms. plumbing and the largest pool of any accommodation facility on the South Coast.

The pool was originally built in the 1970's for the Australian Olympic swim team to use as a training facility.

New paving and decking means no more walking through mud.

A large new solar panel array has been installed along with security cameras, new air conditioning in rooms, electronic door locks and plenty of new technology.

Internet access is also being improved along with new projection facilities in the function rooms.

All local tradespeople are being used and initially 10 to 12 people will be employed on the property that in the past has been called Uncle Tom's Hut and Jamberoo Valley Lodge.
