Anticipating the closure students and scientists at the science centre thought the kits would be a great way to help parents with home schooling during coronavirus restrictions.
They also recorded enough free educational content to share online for the next month..
The Virtual Science Space launched on Thursday follows the creation of range of videos that include DIY home science, maker challenges and show stopping science demos for young minds.
Science Space director Stuart Creal said supporting local families and children to foster and develop a love for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) was their priority
"We wanted to make sure that even though our families aren't able to come to us in these challenging times, that we could bring the learning to them.both virtually and physically through our free supplies".
The free maker kits include a range of experiment and activity supplies for experiments at home.
They also include videos and items such as rocket balloons, pipe cleaners, feathers, pom poms and foil.
