In doing so they leveled proceedings at one apiece, after Bulli High School's impressive student debaters won last year's inaugural event at Thirroul Community Centre.
'It's a Great Thing to Live in the Digital Age' was the topic of this year's debate, held once again as part of the Seniors Week Festival.
Using a mixture of humour and smarts, the U3A debaters successfully argued that it was indeed a great thing to live in a digital age.
This proved a little difficult for U3A debater Elsa Story.
"I actually hate computers but we had to argue for the affirmative so I had to find a way to argue this point, which fortunately I was able to," she said.
Tamara Jero, U3A's youngest member was happy to have won the debate but praised her opponents.
"I probably leaned more towards what the high school students said because I feel very concerned about people misusing technology and particularly the addictive side of it. I think people just need not to be naive about how technology is being misused in the modern era."
Bulli High students Bethany Hopkins and Lani Taylor felt the better team had won the debate. "In saying that, we're looking forward to next year's debate," Lani said.
