The recent Australian All Schools carnival in Perth certainly produced some outstanding performances. One of the most impressive was recorded by our own Chelsea Ezeoke, who recorded one of the fastest 400m of the day. Her time, to win gold in the under 14 girls' division, is the fastest a local athlete of this age has run over the distance, and also ranks her among older local athletes such as Kylie Hanigan, Nioka Gray, and company.

What a great time of 56.35sec, for this talented young athlete. Chelsea has her own set goals and it is great to see that she knows it is a long road to open competition, but what a great start for this talented young athlete. She then joined the NSW team to take another gold in the 14 years 4x100m relay, with another local in this team, Delta Amidzovski.
Grace Adams represented her club and her state proudly, and did the right thing pulling up in her 400m hurdles after she felt her legs tightening up. Grace, who has suffered a few injuries and illness this year, made the NSW team in the 400m hurdles, not her real chosen event, which is the shorter hurdles. She will be back bigger and better.
ILLAWARRA TRACK CHALLENGE
The Illawarra Track Challenge will be held on Saturday, January 11, at the Kerryn McCann Athletic Centre, conducted by IBS in conjunction with ANSW. This event attracts some of the state's leading athletes, vying for the title of 60-metre and one-mile state champions, in both men and women.
Will local sprinter Abbie Taddeo take it out again in the 60m women's section? Her past, great history over this event is most impressive and she will be a force once again in this year's event.
The track challenge will also have the masters 60m and although they will not be competing for the state title, the divisions are always competitive for the Blue Star medal.
Although she won't be competing, star distance athlete Jessica Hull will have the women's mile named after her with dad Simon, sponsoring the women's mile under his business name Simon Hull Tiling. The mens mile will be again sponsored by Bing Lee Shellharbour, and the 60m by Kings Sports. See Athletics NSW website for entries into this event.
The 60m and one mile having great supporting events also. An afternoon/evening of great athletics and one that you don't want to miss.
NSW COUNTRY TITLES
These titles will be held in Dubbo on January 17-19, 2020 and have reverted back to the normal three days of competition. A great venue with excellent facilities, Dubbo hosted a very good championship a few years ago, and with the experience behind them, this year's is expected to be equal, if not better.
Entries are taken via the ANSW website but IBS have accommodation locked in and if any one wishes to use this, please contact Valmai Loomes via email valibs53@outlook.com. Athletes who wish to book their own private accommodation are advised to do very quickly.
SKINS AND MILE
Blue Stars held their popular skins and handicap mile last Sunday to finish off the first part of the summer season of 2019-2020. A successful first half of NSW All Schools, State Relays and Australian All Schools, along with the Masters Games and throws competition, have seen the club compete very well . It is anticipated that the second half will see it even better.
Great to see a return to the track of longer distances athletes Rosie Davidson and Sam Jones. Rosie had her first hit-out last week whilst Sam has competed successfully in the state 3km, winning his division. They join the likes of Justin Miller and Rowan Walker and John Van Stappen, who have also made great returns to the track.
On behalf of the committee of Illawarra Blue Stars we take this opportunity of wishing everyone a safe, happy and relaxed Christmas break and especially to our members in the fire zone areas. The club will resume point score competition on Sunday, January 5, at 2.15pm for a 2.30pm start.
