Especially when the pen is used to write words which sway firmly held opinions.
That's exactly what an Activist Writing Workshop with Claire O'Rourke attempts to do.
O'Rourke, who has over 20 years of experience in journalism, communications and campaigning in Australia and around the world, will run the workshop in room 19.GO20 at the University of Wollongong.
The workshop presented by the South Coast Writers Centre and HARP runs from 12.30pm-3.30pm on October 19.
O'Rourke will walk participants through the concrete steps to write strong campaign emails and letters, and explain how to find, use and track the best evidence to demonstrate your argument.
She will also provide suggestions on how to adapt your communications for different audiences and different communications channels to deliver maximum impact.
O'Rourke currently works as the Australian Energy Transitions program director at the Sunrise Project, a climate justice organisation that scales social movements to drive the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy as fast as possible.
Participants are encouraged to bring their campaign writing drafts to share and workshop with the group.
Tickets for SCWC members costs $30.
