A High Tea was held for their project Days4Girls. The theme was a mad hatter one with many of the 130 women parading in the most imaginative and exotic hats.
More than $5000 was raised to supply girls in Third World countries with sanitary supplies.
At that time of the month, girls have to stay at home and they miss school, usually, up to three months a year.
Thus, they either never complete their education or it is disrupted.
Over the last three years since committing to the project, the group has sewn and delivered over 2000 kits, mainly to Nepal and India.
The kits last up to three years. The scheme is working.
By being able to attend school full-time, the girls are able to complete their education, and then with that success, they are employable.
This can get them out of the cycle of poverty. This is an amazing initiative and achievement.
There is also the emotional response and it is the Kinship of Womanhood that warms the heart.
During the afternoon, delicious home-made food, wonderful entertainment by the Wollongong Harmony Chorus, and a Spanish dancer clicking his way across the floor to the rhythm and castanets were enjoyed by all who attended and who so kindly supported this cause.
Another project the Corrimal club is committed to is the ongoing drought and support for Trundle Central School.
This will be featured in this column in coming weeks.
