Many athletes had other commitments and due to the conditions, the final round was cancelled.

But the club now moves forward and will farewell the winter competition with the final round of the Winter Track an Field series to be held Sunday, August 25, starting at 10.30am with first events.

Back to the mainstream events, this round will consist of the normal 100 metres, 400 metres, 2km, hammer, walk and long jump, with the 2km track run to commence right on 10.30am followed by the 100 metres.

Runners in the 2km are advised to be at the track by 10am to submit their names. All athletes who have attended the three rounds are urged to come along to the last round, with a voucher on offer from a draw, if you have attended all four rounds.

As we draw to a close the winter events, we can look back and reflect on some good performances including our three girls Abby Cox, Ashlyn Adams and Grace Adams all having top efforts on their trip to Canada.

Also overseas, Jessic Hogg has just taken out third placing in her age bracket in a San Francisco Fun Run, great experience to run against athletes from another nation.

Good news from the Sunday epic City to Surf with Liam Ryan breaking the 70 minutes mark, and placing a great 7000 out of 71,000 competitors. He was joined by his club mate York Yu who finished just over the 73 minutes to place in the top 10,000 out of the 71,000 people competing in this great event.

And Mary Thomas has done it again. Competing in the UTS Winter meet last weekend, Mary broke three more state records capturing the hammer, shot and weight throw for her age bracket, and on the eve of her travelling to the Oceania Games in Queensland.

She will be joined by club mates June Lowe, Rina Flynn and Andrew Roda, all athletes expected to do well in these popular Games.

Geoff Hynoski will compete in his favourite Trail Run when he ventures down to take part in The Wonderland Run in the Grampians in Victoria on Saturday, August 24, a testing course for anyone to encounter.

Our school-age athletes have also performed very well and many will be heading to the state high and primary schools titles.

A recent personal best by Charlotte Smith in the javelin, in her regional titles, will now see her head into the state titles with confidence.

Independent school athletes are also heading into their final rounds before state, and we will watch with interest how young high jumper Grace Shaw performs after a very good winter preparation.

Preparations are under way for a full-on summer season of track and field and Illawarra Blue Stars will open the season on Sunday, September 15 at Kerryn McCann Athletics Centre.

First round competition, plus registrations to be taken for summer and also uniform orders.

The club has decided to commence point score on this day, as athletes can register at any time at a club meet, but can only compete two rounds before registering to give new members a chance to see if they like the sport.

School age students are urged to use the Government Active Kids Voucher for registration, an ideal way to take part in a great sport for very little payout.

Dual Registered members are also encouraged to join up with their Little A's fee covering them for our senior club.

It's official, NSW Relays titles will be held this season on Saturday and Sunday, November 23-24, on the Campbelltown track to help them celebrate their 20th anniversary.

The Illawarra Track Challenge, hosted by Illawarra Blue Stars, the state 60 metres and one mile titles plus supporting events, will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020.

Then we are off to Dubbo for the NSW Country titles on January 17-19, 2020 - back to the old format of three days.
