The Oceania Championships is a major track meet featuring Under 18, Under 20 Open and Para class athletes from Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and many of the micro nations from the south-western and central Pacific. The meet this year was held at the top class Townsville track framed by the rugged granite peaks nearby. The meet was held from late June and three of our well regarded athletes travelled to the sunny north of Queensland to pit their skills against the best in the South Pacific.

James Gorham competed in the pole vault. Things didn't go smoothly for James at first. His poles were stuck in Brisbane through some mix-up and had to be trucked all the way up to Townsville. On the comp day itself the wind was quite a major influence on jumping conditions. Being the hardened competitor that he is, he managed to come away with a well deserved silver by jumping a second place to fellow Australian Ethan Princena-White,. with a height of 4.10m.
Our petite powerhouse T11 athlete Karlee Symonds won silver in the para 100m with a time of 15.46sec.
Finally, Mr Personality, James Turner T36, fought a highly contested 400m final, and was pushed to the very limit. The challenge netted him a gold medal along with a world T35 record which will sit nicely alongside his 200m and 800m T35 World records and his Olympic Para Gold for the 400m. A well deserved massive well done to our three competitors.

A huge congratulations goes out to Delta Amidzovski who added to her last year's plaudits for her amazing athletic efforts at NSW and Australian level. Delta was a presented with a framed certificate by Kiama MP Gareth Ward, for her outstanding performances at the Schools Sport Australia, Athletics Championships in Melbourne in 2018.
At the halfway point in the winter AW Parkrun pointscore, Ros Perry is narrowly in the lead with 71.51 per cent closely followed by last year's winner, Teresha Moxham with 70.42 per cent. The highest individual score has been Patrice Sivills with 73.49 per cent. Former President and Life member, Des Comer has completed the most parkruns with nine runs, all at Sandon Point.
AW members have competed at parkruns at Sandon Point, North Wollongong, Shellharbour, Picton and Camden, so find a parkrun the suits you and join in on a Saturday morning.
