The Illawarra's aspiring auctioneers made their best bid to raise almost $10,000 for charity on Thursday night.

The 2019 Novice Auctioneers Competition is the Real Estate Institute of NSW's annual charity event.
The event features budding auctioneers battling it out, with this year's proceeds going to Domestic Violence NSW and the Illawarra Convoy.
NAC 2019 comprises eight heats taking place across NSW - led by REINSW board members and industry professionals - with the state final on June 13 in Sydney.
The Wollongong heat took place on Thursday night at Harbourfront Seafood Restaurant, Wollongong, hosted by Molenaar + McNeice's Trever Molenaar.
The competition aims to give up-and-coming auctioneers the opportunity to try their hand at auctioneering, without the pressure of selling a property.
Entrants auction off an item of their choice that they sourced themselves.
Mr Molenaar said nearly $10,000 was raised at the Wollongong event, between auctions on the night and sponsorship.
The winner of the 2019 Wollongong heat was Bryce Bevan, who auctioned a horseback beach ride for two on Seven Mile Beach.
Mr Bevan competed in the CBD and Eastern Suburbs heats prior to the Wollongong heat.
Wollongong was attended by more than 100 people.
"It was a good night," Mr Molenaar said.
"The Wollongong region, out of all the REI catchment areas, we've been for many years one of the strongest areas to compete (in terms of) funds raised, people turning out and just the overall night in general."
Other prizes auctioned on the night included a Domain Group sponsorship pack and tailor-made suits.
The winner of NAC 2019 will receive $1000 in prizemoney and industry opportunities to refine their skills, including the opportunity to conduct the 2020 Women in Real Estate (WIRE) charity auction.
Judges at the Wollongong heat were Clarence White, Ben Mitchell and Clinton Richardson.
The REINSW is a peak industry body for real estate agents and property professionals in NSW.
