But to ensure it can continue to cater for the growing demand it will need more accommodation and a steady supply of new quality tourism products.
Following an Expedia Group report showing Wollongong ranked among the top destinations for international demand Destination Wollongong's Tracey Pascoe said Online Travel Agent bookings were definitely on the increase. And that trend is not showing any sign of slowing down.
"Consumers are very comfortable booking via well-known OTA's such as Expedia for any travel needs," she said.
"Destination Wollongong partners with Destination NSW, Key Airlines and Online Travel Agencies in promoting and packaging Wollongong and the Grand Pacific Drive to promote self-drive and overnight stays within key growth markets such as China and South East Asia.
"They can experience nature, beautiful scenery, uncrowded beaches, great quality food and beverage options as well as a wide range of accommodation and activities".
Ms Pascoe has been working in the international space for five years and has particularly helped to grow visitation from China and South East Asia.
From her experience most of the international visitors are free independent travelers attending international conferences and events and visiting family and friends.
The top things they like to do is eat out, see the sights, go to the beach, visit national parks and shop.
Wollongong has what the travelers want.
But a few things need to happen to ensure the city can keep meeting the growing demand. That includes more accommodation and new quality tourism products.
"We do have limited to stock especially within the accommodation sector," Ms Pascoe said.
