The Rotary Club of West Wollongong held its Australian Citizenship Ceremony on Wednesday, February 27.

This has been an annual event since 1992.
With an average of 15 candidates per annum, the Rotary Club of West Wollongong have overseen some 400 new Australian citizens.
It is an important part of anyone’s life to become a citizen of a new country and especially Australia.
Club president Helen Hasan presided over the ceremony with the Deputy Lord Mayor, Cr David Brown providing the administration of the Pledge of Commitment to Australia.
This was followed by an Affirmation Ceremony by all present.
Cr Brown enjoyed the ceremony, advising all new citizens that they must now like Vegemite, burn snags on the BBQ and fully understand the rules of cricket.
The candidates were from far and wide around the globe, Scotland, China, India, Indonesia and the United Kingdom.

The Pledge of Commitment to Australia:-
From this time forward, ('Under God' optional),
I pledge my loyalty to Australia and its people,
Whose democratic beliefs I share,
Whose rights and liberties I respect,
And whose laws I will uphold and obey.
This initiative is another example of Rotary making a difference in their community.
The Rotary Club of West Wollongong meet Wednesday evenings, at 6.15pm at the Centro CBD Restaurant at 28 Stewart St, Wollongong.
The club is involved with many local, national and international projects.
One current fund-raiser is for the farmers' drought and flood relief.
