They were there to get information and speak to experts attending CALDWays for Multicultural Communities Aged Care Information Day.
The event featured information stalls and workshops about planning ahead, elder abuse, dementia, mental health, My Aged Care, Centrelink and financial counselling.
It follows hot on the heels of PICAC’s (Partners in Culturally Appropriate Care) highly successful CALDWays Conferences, which over the past seven years have supported the aged care industry to implement culturally appropriate services.
PICAC is auspiced by the Multicultural Communities Council of Illawarra (MCCI) and funded by the Australian Government.
“Many older people from CALD backgrounds say that they find the Aged Care System confusing and overwhelming,” PICAC manager Cecilia Milani said.
“With the ongoing aged care reforms, based on more flexibility and choice for individuals, we would like to ensure that communities have the information they need to make informed choices about what services are available and how to access them.”
CALDWays will hold its next information session in the ACT, on November 19.
