The halfback led the team around the park and played a crucial role in Bowral’s superb defensive effort. 

Small’s most noteworthy play of the game was his role in Bowral’s opening try of the game, a short-side scrum move that saw Christian Vainerere cross.

However it was the less flashy work that won him the award, with five-eighth Lachlan Huntington receiving crisp, clean ball throughout the entire match.

Bowral coach Gene Fairbanks was full of praise for his halfback following the 34-18 upset victory.

“Tim’s the ultimate competitor,” Fairbanks said. 

“He’s a fantastic leader and we couldn’t have done it without him.

“He’s our best on ground every game, but we never gave him any points because he feels like one of the coaches and doesn’t need them. 

“He’s a special competitor and we love him. He’s great.”
