Twenty-six of our juniors, one of the largest ever groups from our club, represented their schools and our region at the recent NSW Combined High Schools Athletics Championships held at SOPAC.

Their presence at this major event is a culmination of the many hard hours of sacrifice and training by each member of the team in reaching this carnival. Some of the athletes had been battling with school workloads or niggling injury, but each and every one of them did us proud with their outstanding efforts.
Results were: Alyssa Parks: G15, 400m 9th 63.08sec, long jump 5th 5.31m, 200m hurdles final 5th 30.79sec, triple jump 8th 10.09m. Alana McGarry: G12, shot put 7.82m. Amy Joy: G14 100m final 6th 12.81. 200m heats 26.75. Blake Barklay: B17+, 110m hurdles 5th 15.54 sec. Cailee Melfi: G12, long jump 4.38m, high jump 1.30m. Charli Ryan: G12, 80m hurdles 19.46 sec, and then competed in the 1500m walk as an under 14 competitor 9min.08.83sec. Dylan Clarke: B14, 200m 25.50sec. Eleanor Tozer: G14, 200m final 6th 26.17sec, high jump 2nd 1.55m, long jump 5th 5.17m. Gabriel Bickel: B17, 100m final 11.44sec, 200m final 4th 22.68sec, 400m final 6th 53.09sec. With heats and finals Gabriel was competing in 6 races over the carnival.
Jett Link: B15 100m hurdles 15.58sec. Kalia Spencer: G13, 100m final 3rd 12.86sec, 200m heats 27.98sec, long jump 4.35m. Karlee Symonds: Multi class G16 broke the Australian under 18 and under 20 multi class record for the 100m in 15.19sec and broke the Oceania and Australian under 18 and under 20 record for the 200m in 32.93sec. Kaylee Reid O'Brien: gave the G14 race walk a good shake, but the going was very tough, missing out on a placing. Lara Check: G15, 100m heat 13.28sec, high jump Gold 1.66m. Lara also competed in the Outdoor pentathlon in the 17+ age division earning her second medal, a silver with 2778 points. Mikayla Check: G17+, 00m heats 27.49sec, 100m hurdles Bronze 15.74 sec. Nathan Bowman: B15, 800m 2min.14.03sec, long jump 5.75m. Nathan Cowgill: B17+ Gold in javelin with an enormous 61.15m. Nikita Freeburn: B17+ triple jump 9.39m. Olivia Berry: G16 200m 28.29sec. Olivia Sivills: G14, 1500m 5min.06.05sec, 300m 11min.24.31 sec
Rosemary Boyland: G multi class 16 years. Gold in shot put and an Australian under 18 record 10.71m and also picked up a gold in discus breaking the Australian under 18 record with 26.41m. Rosie Tozer: G16 a prolific and successful high jumper. Won gold with a jump of 1.76m, won silver in the triple jump with 11.13m and competed in the long jump 4.67m and discus 24.24m. Ruby Lee Paterson: G15, 400m heat 63.16sec, 800m 2min.36.20sec. Ryan Keen: B13, shot put 5th 13.01m discus 5th 37.71m. Teagan Berry: G16, 100m Final Silver 12.31sec 200m Silver 24.99sec.
Chelsea Ezeoke: G12. Chelsea had a very hard program involving 9 events, but still managed to land some outstanding results. She broke the 100m CHS record for the 100m in the heats with 12.58sec, gaining silver in the final with 12.72sec. In the 200m heat she broke the CHS record with 25.79sec, and then broke it again winning gold in the final, with 25.60sec. She then contested the 400m winning gold with 59.19sec, Silver in long jump 4.93m, Gold in shot put with 11.87m and in discus she threw 21.56m.

The Australian Masters Throws Championships will be held at Beaton Park on Saturday, September 29, to Monday, October 1. Entries close September 18.
Our regular season starts on October 10 at Beaton Park at 5.30pm. The first night will be an all comers night so that prospective new members can have a taste of athletics events. Registration, uniforms and other enquiries will be handled by a number of our willing members. Our club has been very successful in many of the athletics disciplines as you can see by the above results. So whether young, old or in between there is something that you can participate in.
