Lake Illawarra PCYC recently conducted its fund-raiser for the Time4Kids 2018 program at Stockland Shellharbour.

Time4Kids is an initiative of PCYC NSW, a unique partnership between the community and the NSW Police Force youth command.

It involves dozens of events around NSW, including sporting challenges, spending time in mock jail cells and raising the necessary fund-raising “bail money”, dinners and community gatherings.

PCYC supporters, including community members and leaders, business leaders, celebrities and sporting heroes, volunteer to “do time to stop youth crime”.

All proceeds raised will be used to support the work of police programs throughout the PCYC club network.

Lake Illawarra PCYC manager, Mitchell Tierney, a member of the Rotary Club of Shellharbour City, expressed his gratitude to all of the participants who took part in the mock jail lockup and in doing so raised $3150.

Larry How, president of the Rotary Club who was one of the participants, was more than happy to help out the PCYC.

Larry would also like to thank the community for their much appreciated donations and also the fantastic support of the police members from the Local Area Command who were in attendance and helped to make it a very successful day.

Rotary and the PCYC have maintained a long history together beginning when the PCYC was established in 1937 by Police Commissioner William John MacKay.

It was a partnership forged with the community via Rotary to provide young people with a safe and positive alternative to the streets.

Today, the PCYC operates more than 60 clubs and centres through the state, with more than 100,000 members and more than 140 different activities – one of the largest youth organisations in Australia.

The Rotary Club of Shellharbour City meets every Wednesday at Warilla Bowls Club at 6.30pm. Visitors are most welcome.
