Throughout Stamp Collecting Month a number of students throughout the city, including Berkeley West Public School twins Callum and Caitlyn Yeaman, have collected five stamps showcasing some of the diverse and threatened species found on the Great Barrier Reef.
The month coincides with the third International Year of the Reef (IYOR), a campaign by the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI).
Australia Post Wollongong manager Jenny Walsh said young students could take a closer look at how we can preserve this UNESCO World Heritage site.
“Stamp Collecting Month gives you an opportunity to deepen our relationship with our community,” she said.
“It’s a fantastic conversation starter and raises awareness of important matters, like preserving the Great Barrier Reef.
“The colouring competitions and beautiful imagery on the stamps are great ways for us to engage with children as well.”
