But the Nowra High School year 12 student is ecstatic his final Southern Stars’ performance will be singing Jimmy Barnes’ hit Working Class Man.
It is a fitting song, considering this year’s spectacular showcase is called the Southern Stars 2018 ICONIC.
On Thursday the 18-year-old and fellow rock-band members met up at Pleasant Heights Public School to rehearse.
“To play such a classic song will be an amazing experience. I couldn’t think of a better way to go out,” Spencer said.
Spencer and Kye Meizer sing vocals in the rock band, which also features Caleb Morice (keyboard), Leon Holstegge (bass guitar) and Hayden Markham-Bell on drums.
He will also be playing guitar in what will be one of the highlights of the show – Bohemian Rhapsody. This will involve a choir made up of teachers as well as the full Southern Stars choir.
Spencer, who has been a featured Southern Stars’ artist for the past seven years, also plays in his own progressive-rock band.
Deafening Silence, which also features his sister Melody, who is also a featured Southern Stars’ dancer this year, recently won a battle of the bands competition in Sydney.
Band members have also spent some time in a recording studio recently working on some new tracks.
Spencer’s parents are also great musicians and he also performs with them at festivals.
“It’s full on, especially as I’m doing my HSC at the moment. But in saying that, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m doing what I love,” he said.

The four ICONIC shows take place at WIN Entertainment Centre on August 31 (10am & 7.30pm) and September 1 (2pm & 7.30pm). Tickets available at Ticketmaster.
