The first McDonald’s restaurant in the world to offer table service has officially McDoubled in size to keep up with growing demand.
Warilla franchisees Glenn and Katia Dwarte made the decision 18 months ago to redevelop the building and make it twice the size inside.
The scene on Friday was as hectic as a reality TV home reno, with the final touches being applied to the restaurant’s three distinct new areas: the cafe zone, parents and kids zone, and the teen zone.
It signalled the completion of the largest capital investment of any McDonald’s restaurant in Australia this year.
Along with more space inside, the new McDonald’s Warilla features an undercover two-level PlayLand, three large slides and a separate toddler zone.
“There hasn’t been a bigger McDonald’s playground built than this one,” Mr Dwarte said.
The restaurant also has an additional drive-thru window especially for McCafe orders.
Patronage from the Shellharbour community already has Warilla ranked as the third highest store in Australia for drive-thru volume.
The Dwarte family hopes the major upgrade will help take it to number one.
The new store has three Espresso machines to help meet the demand for coffee, while a larger McCafe area is located near the drive-thru to make service more efficient.
“McCafe has become a big part of McDonald’s business,” Mr Dwarte said.
The Dwarte family has some big plans for Valentine’s Day in the new restaurant in 2019, but the immediate focus was on delivering the same level of service in a new bigger restaurant.
“We would like to thank our customers for being so patient during the major rebuild,” Mrs Dwarte said.
