The Southern Expansion head of football and SBS commentator was none too happy when the Wolves 4 A-League sign popped up on the television screen during SBS’ World Cup coverage in Russia.
Foster recently launched a bid rivaling the Wollongong Wolves’ inclusion in the A-League.
The video, showing a visibly upset Foster, has since gone viral, much to the pleasure of WolfDen member Matt Dawson.
As of Wednesday morning, more than 38,000 people had viewed the video, which was posted on June 14, a couple of days before the Socceroos kicked off their World Cup campaign against France.
Dawson was surprised but not shocked by the reaction of Foster, who heads Wolves’ A-League expansion rival bid Southern Expansion.
“Look, we were just doing the tourist thing in Moscow and came across the media circle and saw SBS and thought let’s get the banner on TV,” he said.
“The look on Foster’s face was priceless, but to be honest we were just doing it for the Wolves. It has since turned into this look at Foster thing, which we won’t say we are too disappointed with.”
WolfDen members are passionate about Australian football and Wollongong.
“Our main motivation is to see top level football in this region that is dedicated to the Illawarra alone,” he said.
“We love that there is substantial interest in A-League expansion and that our video has helped to shape the conversation.”
Dawson added the WolfDen Facebook page presented a light-hearted view “into the joy and excitement of the World Cup as well as the humour and friendship in the world game”.
“The WolfDen World Cup preview is where to go for parochial and biased analysis of Australia's run to the World Cup final,” he said.
“Most importantly we hope our page encourages as many people as possible to join us on the terraces and in supporting the boys on their journey to the A-League.”
