Last week council endorsed the suite of four key planning documents - the Community Strategic Plan (CSP) 2018-2028, Resourcing Strategy, Delivery Program 2018 – 2021 and Operational Plan 2018-2019. The documents reflect council’s continued ability to meet the all seven Fit for the Future ratios set by the State Government.

All four documents highlight council’s partnership with the community and our commitment to delivering services and infrastructure.
The CSP is community-driven and therefore council’s highest level planning document. I was particularly pleased to see the high level of engagement with the community, with more than 100 submissions received. I thank everyone who contributed to the process.
Last week I was thrilled to reveal the official names of the marina and harbour at Shell Cove. The marina will be known as Shellharbour Marina, while the harbour itself will be called Shell Cove. An official logo has been designed and a website has been created. I believed it was important to have Shellharbour in the marina name.
It’s our identity and we need to celebrate our city’s entrepreneurial vision and showcase what we have to offer. Our city has matured significantly over the years and we should be proud of what we have achieved. It’s been a 30-year journey to create an activated and vibrant regional hub that will stimulate tourism and boost the local economy.
Finally, I’d like to sincerely congratulate our Good Neighbour of the Year, Joyce Stevens, of Barrack Heights. Joyce was nominated by her neighbour Manja Zschoener. Ms Zschoener said Ms Stevens had helped her family countless times.
Joyce is a fine example of all that is good about our community and I wish her all the very best.
- Cr Marianne Saliba
As they do not have family nearby, Ms Zschoener said the support and care provided by Ms Stevens was invaluable and that ‘Oma Joyce’ was now considered part of their family.
She has picked up children from school and sporting activities, done washing and provided a caring ear and a wise word. She also spoils the children, looks after her lawns and secretly puts out little finds like pretty stones or shells for her son, who loves them. Joyce is a fine example of all that is good about our community and I wish her all the very best.
