Former member Eric Taylor recently found eight annual reports and two photo albums in his search for information that will help him contact people.
“For the past couple of months Derek Stanford and I have been trying to track down former members of our old club. We were both foundation members. I was club president in 1977/78 and Derek in 1982/83,” Mr Taylor said.
In keeping with Apex tradition the two men resigned at age 40 in 1984.
“Derek tracked me down after 34 years and we decided to see how many members we could find with the view to holding a reunion. It will be the first since the club which was chartered in 1976. Sadly the club became non-operational in the late 1980’s due to declining membership. Even more sadly declining membership eventually saw the collapse of all 12 Apex Clubs in the Illawarra.”

Mr Taylor said he and Mr Stanford have managed to contact 24 of the 56 members.
“The club functioned for over 10 years clocking up over 8,000 hours of service to the community. We also raised tens of thousands of dollars for worthwhile charities and organisations”.
Among the beneficiaries were Warilla Advice & Information Centre, Spastic Council of Australia, Help a Kid Make It, St John’s Ambulance, Guide Dogs, Warilla-Barrack Point Surf Club, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), Greenacres, Peter Gandy Appeal, Shellharbour Training Centre for handicapped adults, bushfire appeal, Cranio Facial Surgery and Warilla Football Club.
Mr Taylor hopes the community can help track down as many Warilla-Mt Warrigal Apexians as possible.
“No actual date has been set yet but we are thinking around September or October. At this stage we are confining invitations to former members and a few from Shellharbour Apex Club who helped establish our club. One is Brian Mackander OAM who was the Illawarra’s Apex District Governor 1977/78. If you were a member of the club or know someone who was please call myself on 0421 333 676 or Derek on 0411 750 195”.
