KidsFest Shellharbour is designed to encourage families with children 0-12 to get out and about in their community
Scores of families visited Killalea State Park on Saturday as part of the festivities, which this year align with the theme ‘Share, Grow, Inspire’.
The Connecting with County and Culture event included a Scouts Climbing Wall, circus skills, Bollywood dancing, Zumba, Rhee Tae Kwon Do, sack races, music and craft.
A giant teepee was set up in the park to accommodate art, a sensory play experience and lantern-making.
Uncle Gerald led a smoking ceremony at dusk, before a performance from Richard Campbell and The Little Ngargens dancers and a magical lantern parade. A dinner of bush tucker followed, before a session of story-telling around the fire and a screening of the short, locally-produced film Protection.
KidsFest Shellharbour is funded through sponsorship from local community and support from the NSW State Government and Shellharbour City Council.
The initiative partners local businesses and community organisations across the city and is intended to encourage social inclusion and a sense of belonging for children, their families and carers.
