But if previous years are any guide, hot roasted chestnuts will be king of kids big and small on May 20.
More than 5000 people are expected to attend the event, which is steeped in tradition and heritage.
Fraternity Club vice president Connie Sacco said Castagne Day symbolises the traditional roasting of chestnuts, as well as a day of family fun and activities.
“We welcome the public to drop in and enjoy a day of cuisine, live entertainment, market stalls, kids’ rides and the roasting of chestnuts,” she said.
Club member Emilio Felli is a favourite among the crowds each year.
Thirty years ago he built a chestnut roaster with his bare hands – and that same roaster continues to serve delicious chestnuts to warm the hearts and tastebuds of patrons.
Each year Emilio cooks around 1100kg of chestnuts for wide-eyed customers.
“It’s enjoyable to cook them and to see the people enjoying them,” he said.
Castagne Day is free but unlimited ride tickets can be purchased on the day.
