Kookaburrra Flynn Ogilvie was the toast of the Illawarra as he won his first hockey gold medal with the Australian team, beating New Zealand 2-0 in the final of the Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast.

It was a great comeback for Ogilvie after he tore his hamstring in Malaysia last year and had to undergo fitness tests and rehabilitation.
He came back strong at the Gold Coast with many assists in the semi final against England beating them 2-1 and was the key player in the first goal in the final which was scored by Aaron Klienschimth.
“It was an amazing experience to win such a big event at home. It made it even more special to do it in front of my family and friends, a lot of which hadn't watched me play for the Kookaburras before,” Ogilvie said after the final.
He admitted the Kiwis were very strong this time but the team were very confident going into the final and played some of the best hockey to beat them.
Ogilvie made his debut for the Kookaburras in 2014 against India in Perth and now has 67 caps.
Flynn's older brothers Kurt and Heath have played for the NSW Waratahs and all three brothers have played in the Australian indoor team in the indoor World Cup in 2016 in Vienna.
Older sisters have also been in the hockey limelight. Lyndal has represented the national indoor team as a goalkeeper and second sister Airlie has a Champions Trophy silver medal playing for the Hockeyroos in 2010 in Sydney.
Flynn's next mission is the Champions Trophy in the Netherlands in June before the World Cup in India in November this year.
