It has been a hectic season, but one that has seen a number of athletes emerge and a number of older athletes shining through. We saw this in the Commonwealth Games where the results showed a mixture of the young athletes mixing with the more experienced athletes.
This year at IBS club level we have seen the same with young athletes making their first appearances at national level. We also have had members of IBS in the seniors who have many years behind them, mix it with the best, again at national level.
IBS will celebrate their season with the annual awards and presentation evening to be held Saturday, May 12, at Kanahooka, where young athletes are expected to come up against the more experienced athletes when it comes to the Special Awards section. Judged on performances over the season, the Special Awards section is one of the closest for some time, and is taken on performances from all members of the club.
Make sure you have this date in your diary and come along for not only a great evening, but to share with your club mates and acknowledge the performances of yourself and fellow athletes. Divisional point score winners will also be announced, this too has been very close in a number of divisions.
So on the back end of a great summer season, come along and see how you have performed, Who knows your name may be up there for one of the Special Awards or you may have achieved more points in the local club point score than you think. Full details of the evening will be on website and also the April newsletter going out to all members.
A good contingent of IBS masters athletes are heading off to Perth for the Australian Masters Championships and IBS athletes are expected to be among the top performers of the meet. Conducted over 4 days, the Masters Championships is one of the biggest of all athletic carnivals, and brings together athletes from all over the country.
Blue Stars will be heading into winter with a program of winter activities that is open to everyone. Our “Winter with a Difference” brings together Park runs and IBS meets for cross-country, combined with ANSW events, and the winter track an field program. Cross-country will enable athletes to take part in either a meet on the Saturday or one of the popular IBS runs on a Sunday.
The track and field meets, held every fourth Sunday of the month commencing May, are also a little different with added events of 2 x 1km relays, combing a junior athlete (under 14 down with an older athlete from under 16 upwards).
It’s a great way to meet other people by putting in a team on the day and also having a longer run on the track. Full program of cross-country and the Winter Track and Field series will appear on wwwillawarrabluestars.com.au
IBS is the club which never stops, providing both summer and winter activities each year so regardless of your ability or age check out our programs for winter and stay warm by taking partl. We cater for everyone from under 8 right through to seniors and masters men and women.
