The first Shellharbour Relay for Life held in a new location drew almost as many people and has already raised well ove $50,000 in the fight against cancer.

Cancer Council community engagement manager Grant Plecas said everything was fantastic in the new location at Tom Willoughby Oval across near the surf club and Shellharbour Village.
‘We were not sure how it would go changing the venue after it had been in Albion Park for six years,” he said.
“But the community in Shellharbour have responded well. We could not be happier with the numbers.”
Mr Plecas said the good news was over half the number of 40 teams were participating in their first ever relay.
“They were really exciting numbers and it is really exciting for the growth of that event. We had over 600 people. For our sixth event in Albion Park we got 715 people last year. The Shellharbour community has really engaged this event. And with the Marina coming and things like that I think we can tap into the people living at Shell Cove and Warilla and all that area.”
Mr Plecas said the biggest challenge in the new location was the wind but most of the teams braved the elements and walked through the night. He said it was better to walk in than the torrential rain of the last two years.
Mr Plecas thanked the council and community for being so supportive.
