Their friendship and passion is captured brilliantly in Paper Planes, the latest film in the Illawarra-based multicultural documentary series U & Me.
Paper Planes was launched as part of Multicultural March and in the lead up to Harmony Day and the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21.
“It is a wonderful short film about the friendship between two Wollongong boys who share a passion for paper planes,” Multicultural Communities Council of Illawarra corporate services manager Sarah Wilson said.
In the film Jake and Girish talk about their strong friendship, based on similarities and differences, and how they stick together.
“Without him it feels like a piece of me is gone,” says Jake.
Girish talks about how rare it is to find a friend like Jake.
The U & Me project, initiated by MCCI and Why Documentaries and supported by Multicultural NSW, was launched on Harmony Day in March 2017.
Since then the project has reached more than 250,000 views across different online platforms.
Last October it was one of five finalists for the prestigious Australian Human Rights Commission Award 2017.
A grant from the IMB Community Foundation in 2017 secured the production of Paper Planes and three other short films. Paper Planes can be viewed on U & Me's Facebook page or website.
