The Australian Junior athletics Championships have just concluded. Athletics Wollongong is extremely proud of the effort, sacrifice and determination applied by individuals in this very large contingent of 16 very capable Junior athletes who proved their mettle against the best juniors in Australia. We started with 26 qualifying to go to the NSW Championships and are proud of all those who competed.

Our contingent included Delta Amidzovski, Blake Barklay, Jenna Bentley, Gabriel Bickel, Rosemary Boyland, Erin Dalley, Tierney Dunne, Chelsea Ezeoke (Kayla), Austen Lantry, Jackie Lenartowicz (Nicole), Jett Link, Kirra Lockett, Isaac O'Brien, Jessica Quilter-Jones, Karlee Symonds and Rosie Tozer.
Chelsea Ezeoke once again proved to be quite a powerhouse. Competing as an 11-year-old in the under 14 girls, Chelsea to the amazement of live feed commentators blew away the opposition in the GU14 400m with a staggering time of 57.24 seconds. She then followed up this effort by winning gold in the 200m 25.64sec, the 4 X 100m relay 49.18sec, bronze in the 100m 12.63sec and 5th in shot put 10.85m.
Another very capable athlete Delta Amidzovski won gold in the GU14 high jump 1.63m, silver in the 80m hurdles 12.56sec (missing out on first place by a very close 0.14sec), and 5th in long jump 5.07m
Young para athlete Karlee Symonds showed she is a force to be reckoned with by winning gold in the GU20 para 200m 33.04sec, 400m 1min 17.33sec and 800m 3min 12.05sec and bronze in the U20 para 100m 15.80sec.
Rosie Tozer did her coach proud by competing as a 15-year-old in the GU18 high jump, winning a well deserved silver, with a height of 1.75m.
Rosemary Boyland, another one of our very capable para athletes, won silver in the U20 para discus 26.78m and a bronze in the U20 para shot put 10.79m.
Helensburgh's Tierney Dunne once again proved her grit by winning gold in the GU18 4X100m relay, 46.56sec, and bronze medals in both the GU17 100m, by cracking the 12-second barrier with 11.99sec, and 200m, 24.65sec.
Other finalists were Austen Lantry 10th U17B high jump 1.80m, Isaac O'Brian, 7th U17B 400m hurdles 58.40sec and Erin Dalley 7th in the GU20 200m 28.87sec. In total 8 gold medals, 3 silver and 5 bronze.
On the previous weekend the pole vault component of the NSW Masters Championships was held in conjunction with the NSW All Comers meet.
Montse Ros W35-39 was first with 2.90m and Will Tyler in the M55-59, finished 2nd with 2.90m also.
