City Serve, which has been operating very successfully in Newcastle and Shellharbour, is a volunteer organisation that brings together local churches and community, and often the local council, to transform areas within their city.
Organising committee member Louise Beaton said beautifying Corrimal High School on Saturday, March 17, would be City Serve Wollongong’s first project.
“We are very excited to be invited into Corrimal High School to transform a large outside area, not greatly used but full of potential,” she said.
“Gardens will be mulched and plants added. We we will also make a large herb garden for students to come and pick herbs for their cooking class.”
Mrs Beaton said a new kitchen with a servery will also be built.
There will also be painting and upgrading of the barbecue and seating areas and relaying of uneven paving.
“Future dreaming includes building an amphitheatre area for students,” she said.
“This school has amazing staff and great kids. We want to encourage them and show them how valued they are within our community.”
People are welcome to drop by and help from 8am to 3pm. The day includes a free community barbecue for people to get to know each other more.
