A huge congratulations to our para superstar James Turner for recently being honoured at the Athletics Australia Annual Awards dinner, with the award and title of Male Para Athlete of the Year for his astonishing three-gold medal haul at the London Para-Athletics World Championships. James not only won the 800m in Rio but followed that win with a classy 800m, 400m win, and a double record in his 200m win in the London Para- Athletics World Championships.
The NSW Multi events carnival was held at Wagga Wagga on March 3-4. A number of our athletes did amazingly well at the carnival with places and personal bests.
Results are: Chelsea Ezeoke 12G 1st by 397 with a score of 5435. Ryan Keen 12B 2nd 4666 points. Chelsea Wayne 10G 1st 4882 points. Krystal Ezeoke 10G 4th 4545 points. Eleanor Tozer G14 2nd 4072 points. Rebecca Mills G14 11th 3396 points. Leila Christofides 14G 12th 3260 points. Janna Hadaya 10th 4266 points. Blake Barklay 17B 4th 4359 points. Austen Lantry 17B 6th 4036 points. Claudia Pierro 17G 7th 2924 points.
Last weekend also saw the annual NSW Masters Track and Field Championships at the Blacktown International Sports Centre. Our 7 masters won 35 medals overall.
Christine Shaw W 55-59 Gold in javelin. Adrianna van Bockel W 65-69 silver in hammer and javelin, Gold in weight throw, Bronze in shot put. Sandra Mercer W 65-69 silver in the weight throw, 60m and 100m, Bronze in the hammer, discus, long jump and the javelin. Kristen Mercer W 30-34 Silver in hammer, weight throw and Bronze in discus and the 60m sprint. Peter Kidd M 55-59 Gold in high jump, 3km steeplechase and the 400m hurdles, Silver in the 800m, 100m, long jump and triple jump and Bronze in the weight throw. Dave Ross M 65-69 Gold in weight throw, Silver in discus, hammer, javelin, and bronze in shot put.
A newly invigorated returning athlete Peter Veehuis M 40-44 impressed enormously with two silvers in the 400m and the 200m in very quick time.
Two of our long term favourites: Ros Perry W 65-69 Gold in the 800m and 2km steeplechase, Silver in the shot put. Ron Perry silver in the 2km steeplechase rounded out the successful squad.
