Strategic community partnerships with the University of Wollongong, the Illawarra Academy of Sport and Artspace, informed the development of the new Fun Club program and curriculum.
Big Fat Smile CEO, Jenni Hutchins said she was thrilled about the addition of the new St Columbkille’s Fun Club as it meets a genuine need in the community, supporting the families attending St Columbkille’s Catholic Primary School and Corrimal Public School.
She said over 58 per cent of families – be it single parent or dual parent require support for care outside of school hours.
“Our Fun Clubs go well beyond providing a basic level of care outside of school hours,” Ms Hutchins said.
“They focus on preparing our children for life beyond school through an educational ethos designed to support the development of their emotional and social intelligence, building strong cross age relationships and building their imagination through fun and play.”
Cathy Barber has five granddaughters who attend the Balarang Fun Club.
Ms Barber said the clubs’ meet a genuine community need.
“When I became the sole full-time carer for my five granddaughters, the wonderful staff at the Balarang Fun Club became one of my biggest support networks,” she said.
