The additional event called “A Night for Bert” will be held at the University of Wollongong on the same day. Both functions on Friday, February 9 will provide a perfect lead up to the historic Wigan verses Hull FC Super League match at WIN Stadium on Saturday, February 10.
The announcement of the additional fundraiser follows the release of Wigan’s NSW Tour itinerary earlier this week. The sold out luncheon and the dinner will involve Wigan, Hull and Parramatta legends Brett Kenny and Peter Sterling will reflect on their careers. The evening function will celebrate the history between the two great clubs and the players who have represented them. Along with Sterling other Wigan and Hull greats will join special guest Brett Kenny and look back on the famous 1985 Challenge Cup Final. They will share of many stories from Kenny and Sterling’s careers.
The two fundraising events follow a tough year for the Kenny family. Brett Kenny is battling cancer and his stepson, Riley, suffered spinal damage in an accident.
Wigan executive director Kris Radlinski said the response from Wollongong for the club’s visit has been amazing.
“We have received fantastic support for our tour which has created an incredible level of interest locally as highlighted by the already sold out luncheon earlier in the day,” he said.

“Brett Kenny is fondly remembered by Wigan and Rugby League fans and this event at the University of Wollongong will provide those fans who weren’t able to secure a ticket to the luncheon an opportunity to share a beer and rub shoulders with some of the greats of the game. Who I am sure by that stage of the day will be happy to share some interesting stories from their careers!”
A Night for Bert starts at 6:30pm and tickets include entry, food and live entertainment.
Destination Wollongong general manager Mark Sleigh said the response from the Illawarra to the whole idea of a Super League game being played at WIN Stadium has been increduble.
