A marriage proposal took centre stage at the 130th edition of the ‘The Biggest Little Show on the Coast’.
But for the 2018 show running Saturday and Sunday at Albion Park Showground, organisers are banking on the tried and tested traditional events to bring in the crowds.
Albion Park Show society secretary Marilyn Connelly expects the fireworks and demolition derby to once again be the stars of the show.
‘’It’s the 20th anniversary of the demolition derby with MJ Rowles on board as sponsors,’’ she said.
But she said it was disappointing that this year’s show only had one entrant in the Albion Park Showgirl Competition.
‘’It just seems to be the way it is at the moment. I think the Kiama show is also struggling to get numbers for this competition,’’ Mrs Connelly said.
‘’Things are much better though with the Tiny Tots and Junior Princess Competition. There’s plenty of participants.’’
Rebecca Quinn will officially be named the winner of the Albion Park Showgirl Competition on Saturday.
The 22-year-old from Marshall Mount is an office administrator at Coledale Hospital.
She has two miniature ponies and an Arab that she competes with at Woonona Pony Club and local shows.
Rebecca has completed many horse riding courses, is an instructor and has represented the area at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
She has enjoyed success at the show in the Horse Judging Competition and the Saddle Horse Competition, as well as in the Welsh Pony Stud book competition.
Rebecca has ambition to work with animals and to own her own business, where she can rehabilitate animals with problems and educate people on their care, with a facility to rehouse animals to new homes.
Traditional events in this year’s program include woodchopping, dairy and beef cattle judging, vegetable and farm produce and craft exhibitions.
The entertainment schedule features the Demolition Derby, animal nursery, market stalls and the Saturday night fireworks.
Mrs Connelly said the Freestyle Kings, one of Australia’s most dominant freestyle motocross team specialising in FMX shows, would also feature at the Albion Park Show.
‘’We are very excited about them. We saw them perform on TV show Sunrise and booked them immediately,’’ she said.
The show runs 8.30am to 11pm on Saturday and 8.30am to 3pm on Sunday. Tickets cost $15 per adult.
