Ms Hancock has just returned to Hamburg after a hectic three week to spend time with family and friends in Sydney, Queensland, Wollongong and the South Coast.
“I have just finished my first year working with Core Artist Management (model agency) as Paul James Hay’s executive assistant,” she said.
The opportunity came about after she worked as an assistant for Robyn te Velde on Illawarra’s Top Model for Highlights on Mental Health and the Light and Hope Clubhouse.
“I originally went to do an internship for six weeks which turned into six months and then turned into a year,” she said.
“At the end of the internship they offered me a contract for a permanent position. It is a amazing. Paul is always moving from place to place. A lot of the time now he is spending in Berlin establishing the Berlin office.”
Ms Hancock’s career started doing volunteer charity work in the Macarthur region working for the Kids of Macarthur Health Foundation for 12 years.
“When I moved to the University of Wollongong I thought I should involve myself in the community here,” she said.
Ms Hancock was doing a Bachelor of Commerce but part of her joint degree was a Diploma in event management at TAFE. While there she did some volunteer work with Highlights on Mental Health in 2015. The following year Mrs te Velde and Janine Cullen approached her to help with Illawarra’s Top Model .
Mr Hay was so impressed with her organisational skills when he came out to judge the final that one thing led to another and he asked her to come and work for him in Germany.
“I thought he was joking at first. It is a pretty big thing to leave the country at such a young age. I was only 19. It has been a crazy journey. I never thought this would be the life I have now,” she said.
“I got to spend time with Illawarra models Kyam Hunt and Olivia Strumfin who are the same age as me,” she said.
“This year I will probably come home for another visit in June. My job is very full on. There is always something to. And when Paul books a model on a job he usually hands over to me and I book accommodation and travel. I am very dedicated to my work. I also assist Paul helping him coordinate fashion shoots on weekends.”
Mrs te Velde described Ms Hancock as a dynamo and said her achievements helping her son in the hectic world of modelling in Europe was a wonderful success story.
