Peter Rimington spent Tuesday in Lang Park preparing the site for four fun water rides being activated this summer from Saturday.
The area taking up a third of the park was fenced off and the 18.2 metre high, 80 metre long Big Wedgie as well as the Big Chucka, Just Right Wedgie and Little Wedgie start being inflated on Wednesday.
When he arrived Mr Rimington said the reception he was given by Mark Sleigh and Destination Wollongong was the reason why he decided to bring the four rides to Lang Park.
Wollongong is the first location in NSW you can ride them and it will be the first time this particular Big Chucka has ever been used. The four rides have created 40 casual jobs this week and a team of 12 Under 21 Rugby League players from the Dragons are helping erect them over the next two days in time for water and testing on Friday..
"Short term commercial activations such as the Big Wedgie create employment and encourage visitor spend in areas of high visitation. We welcome the Big Wedgie and hope it serves as a catalyst for discussion around what other activity and areas would benefit from such innovative activations," Mr Sleigh said.
The Big Wedgie will open at Wollongong’s Lang Park on Saturday, December 16 until February 11 between 10am and 8pm. Tickets from $15.
