His selection comes after he opted out of the Oceania Cup in Sydney and the Festival of Hockey in Melbourne due to work commitments.
New coach Colin Batch also brought White into the team to bolster the defence with a new structure in place.
White will join Illawarra’s Blake Govers in the team.
“This is our big tournament so we need to put in a good performance. The boys have been going well over the last month in the lead-up games which holds us in good stead,” White said.
White will be familiar with Indian conditions having played with the Delhi Waveriders team in the Indian hockey league.
The Kookaburras will face India, England and Germany in their group with the other group comprising Olympic champions Argentina, the Netherlands and Belgium.
Flynn Ogilvie is still recovering from an ankle injury and will miss the tournament.
